Hooley Bridge Celtic Firsts 6-1 Mellor Seconds
Match report by Second Team manager Rob White:
An absolutely awful game for Mellor's Second team. After starting the game well and just having the lion’s share of the play, against an organised and good football team, Jerome bungled over one of their players for a penalty approx 15-20mins into the game which was put away. Unfortunately this set the tone for the rest of the game. We played ok up to the final third and then never made the telling pass for that much needed first half goal. All 6 goals from the opposition were due to errors from us. Jason Wilde playing in net only made 3 other tame saves, all game from long range efforts, but obviously they did more than enough anyway. Avi scored a well worked goal at 4-0 and we made a valiant effort in the 2nd half to get some pride back, but as we were chasing the game, they were take their foot off the peddle and stroke the ball about. The only positive from the game was the introduction of Jonny Valentine, who looked dangerous going forward and made some good runs forward and tried to make things happen. On one occasion he played a ball right across the goal which should have been buried away. The next game cannot come quickly enough.
