Stoconians AFC Seconds 6-3 Mellor Thirds
Match report provided by Third Team Manager Adam Axford:
We started the game strongly taking the lead after around 5 minutes, new signing Jack Barraclough with a fantastic curling effort into the top right hand corner, giving the keeper no chance. We contined to be on top although failed to create many clear cut chances before Stocs equalised on 32 minutes. We took the lead again on 38 minutes after Jack Birtwistle latched onto a rebound after Ian Arnfield had a shot saved, there was a hint of offside but we lead 2-1. The lead was short lived after Stocs grabbed another back just a minute before half time.
Having no subs available meant we started the second half with the same team. We were the better side for the first few minutes of the half before Stocs scored two goals in quick succession to make it 4-2 after 62 minutes. An Ian Arnfield corner on 68 minutes was headed back accross goal and over the keeper by Lewis Hanlon to get us back into the game. We were pressing hard and got caught out at the back as Stocs created some late chances. Stocs got two further goals to make it 6-3 with their fitness showing in the later stages of the game. The scoreline doesn't really reflect the game but overall Stocs finished their chances and showed their fitness and deserved to have won the game.
No game for us next week but hopefully we regroup before our next game and get something more from it!
