Moston Brook Thirds 1-8 Mellor Thirds
Match report provided by Richard Nuttall, Third Team Player:
Mellor 3rds played Moston brook 3rd team on Saturday away from home. Mellor 3rds currently sat bottom of the table without a win from 3 games so the game against Moston was a must win game. It was a great 8-1 win for Mellor considering again we had a limited amount of players available to us due to injuries and other commitments.
The game started off at a very high tempo with most of the early chances coming through the left wing through Rick Axford. Unfortunately 5 minutes in Rick sustained an foot injury so Marcus Nowak, making his first appearance in senior football had to come on at left back and Ryan Compson, making his Mellor debut pushed on to left wing.
The first goal was through Ian (always scores) Arnfield who was played through 1v1 and of course he provided the finish. There was then a bit of spell for the next 10 minutes where Mellor didn't score. For a while so it was quite tense game as we didn't want to concede. Ian then scored two quick goals to put any pressure behind Mellor and made it 3-0.
The 4th goal was a sublime finish by Nick from 30 yards out on the volley. The goal was exactly like the Peter crouch volley against Manchester city so it was quite a finish. The 5th and 6th goal were scored by Ian and Nick again making Ian on 4 goals and Nick on 2. The 7th goal was a accurate chip from Ryan on the left hand side. The 8th and final goal was from Jack Kuehl after Jack Barraclough got played through on the halfway line and went 1v1 but instead of shooting he passed it across to Jack Kuehl who smashed the ball as hard as he could into an empty net.
The result was well deserved and I am hopeful that Mellor 3rds can push on and get another win next Saturday. This result pushes us up to 9th in the table.
Up the Thirds!
