Mellor Seconds 0-3 AFC Macclesfield
Match report provided by Second Team Manager Rob White:
Playing against the current cup holders and being in Div 1 of the mid Cheshire we were well aware the opposition were going to be a good test. Taking into account not playing in a month and having a number of key players unavailable, we were going to be right up against it. However after coming up against a very good footballing team and holding them under great pressure for the first 20mins. We then started to come into the game and counter attacked really well. In the first half we had 2-3 really good chances to take the lead. Unfortunately non were, and we knew what was coming if you don’t take chances against decent teams. They scored from a good ball from the left hand side whipped right across the box, we continued our play and after another chance created, they broke and scored again before the half. The second half we played very well and again had 2-3 very good chances but didn’t take any. It was a great response from the team in the second half and one to be proud of against a good team. Knowles did well to stay on the field, after being enraged after being caught in the face with flying arm. Longson too, after a cracker of a rugby tackle. Young Ben McGregor played in goal and did himself huge credit. Cleary going to be a very very goalkeeper, but did not let us down at all. Barlow played well, will parry worked his socks off. Porter came on and nearly scored a 30 yard screamer. Ben hardly touched the ball in the 2nd half and after we through everything at it, they scored on the break very late on to finish the game 0-3. As always we should be disappointed with a defeat, but take great credit from our performance and feel slightly unlucky.
