Spurley Firsts 1-5 Mellor Seconds

Match report provided by Second Team Manager Rob White:

Great to get back to football after the loss last week. The pitch was very wet and wouldn’t of been played if it was at wood lane, however we didn’t let that change our way of playing football. We started the game well playing attacking football. The only threat the opposition had, was a long ball which they continued to try and and play. Marcus and Mike dealt with that well all game. Knowles ran the game from the centre of midfield, with bassey pressing high and getting all over the pitch. This was bassey’s best game for mellor. Jubb was class upfront with Jerome. Lebo struggled to get into the game in the first half, but that was because of all the success the valentine had on the opposite side of the pitch. We were winning at half time 2-0 but should have had more. The second half we went up a gear. Some of the football was an absolute joy to watch. We completely battered them. The whole team were attacking every chance we got the ball and considering the pitch really stated to churn it was incredible. In fairness the opposition were not great, but it was the best football we played all season. It was flowing. Valentine may get a shout for strictly come dancing with some of the slips and moves he was pulling out on the slippery surface. All the goals were good, and jubb got hat trick and Jerome got two. The best goal of the game was the 3x one-twos between juub and lebo into the 18yd box finishing in a lovely dropped shoulder finish. A great game and perfect response to last weeks loss.
