Mellor Seconds 2-0 Hooley Bridge Celtic Firsts

Match report provided by Second Team Manager Rob White:

The opposition were 1pt in front of us, and 3rd place in the league going into the game, they beat also beat us 6-1 away on the 2nd game of the sean, so we knew this would be a tough game and an important one for the season. We didn’t disappoint, with hard fought win. They had a decent team, with a quick steve martin lookalike upfront, but we knew what was at stake. Jamie’ Captain Marvel’ Longson talked well through the game and gave a captains performance. Both Olly and Barlow did well at full back but the two starrs of the show were Tez Boon who provided two assists and Ste Smith who was immense. Just class on the ball, no panic and was strong in the middle protecting the back four. A MOM performance. We scored a really well worked goal down the left hand side, with boon and Jubb playing a one-two and boon cut into the box for Avi to side foot. A slick footballing goal to give the lead we deserved. We didn’t score the 2nd until 10mins before the end when jubb was played through on the break and in true Jubb style he did a cruyff turn, then a shimmy to throw he keep and score a very important 2nd goal. This killed the game off. Chris Porter did well when he came on for Avi, and Mike White also did his bit coming on for Jubb. A really tough game but they are always appreciated more when you have to work for it against a tough rival.
