Chorltonians Thirds 6-3 Mellor Thirds

Match report provided by Third Team Manager Adam Axford:

Another day to forgot for the Thirds as we lose to league leaders Chorltonians with only one sub available. We have really struggled this season when we haven't had a full squad availble and ultimitately it looks to be costing us our title challenge.

As with the game against Tints we took the lead, Fred Keyte volleying home after a chip to the back post from Rick Axford, a really fantastic finish.

Chorlts faught back and went 2-1 in front.

We got back into the game after some shocking keeping, Nick Entwistle robbing the Chorlts #1 near the corner of the box and then lofting the ball towards the back post, it nestled in the top corner, a really smart finish.

Rick Axford then put us 2-3 infront, a great ball down the line from James Langshaw released Rick who caused all kinds of problems for the left back and fired home over the keeper and into the roof of the net. We led 2-3 at half time.

The second half we really never got going, the decesions seemed to go against us and the heavy, muddy pitch really did not suit our style of play. Chorlts however we more than comfortable as the pitch really had no bearing on their Big-Sam long ball style of play. A contentious free kick on the edge of the box after a fantastic ball winning challenge gave Chorlts a lifeline as it was fired into the bottom corner.

We then completely fell to pieces in the last 10-15 minutes and conceded some really poor goals and ended up losing 6-3.

Lewis Hanlon was our Man of the Match and Dean Higginson looked bright after coming on to make his Mellor debut.

Next up in two weeks is a visit to Whalley, a team we need to beat to keep our hopes of a top three finish alive, we also face them in the Cup Semi Final two weeks later so a win would be a real boost!

Up the Thirds!
