Staly Lions Firsts 2-3 Mellor Seconds
Match report provided by Second Team Manager Rob White:
The pitch had more hills and slopes on it than the lake district and the ref was not a day younger than 75 (bless him, as he was a nice bloke), so we knew we had to perform to get the result prior to a break from the league in the cup next week. We didn’t disappoint, as we made a great start playing some good football and we had scored 2 within the first 25minutes. One being a really well worked between Lebo and Avi playing a couple of one twos into the box and Avi placing the ball neatly in the corner with great calm and also Jubb scored a good header after nice play down the left hand side. Greeny’s log kicks were reaching their 18 yard box so was a massive threat and we played quite a lot of long ball during the first half, which is not the way we normally like to play football but with the bobbly pitch surface and short distance, it was a beneficial way of playing. Through constant pressure we got a free kick on the edge of the box and Bassey put the free kick away with ease, however the one moment in the first half we switched off when a ball dropped on the left of the box they scored just before the end of the half. The second half was a different story, as we got dragged into a scrappy game. The ball just wouldn’t sit on the hard bumpy pitch and they scored again to make it 2-3. Greeny had very little else to do in the game really but it was battle in the middle of the park. Bassey and Olly were great again and lebo once again gave his all for the team, tirelessly tracking back. Jubb also had a good game. The game finished 2-3 and we got the 3pts, which was the aim at the start of the game. We now go into our Wray cup Semi on the back of a win.
