Whalley Range Seconds 2-5 Mellor Seconds
Match report provided by Second Team Manager Rob White:
The last game of the season and all we needed was a draw to win the league. Waterloo who were on the same points were not playing that day as they were given the points because Parrswood had folded so the game was voided, so the pressure was on. We were also facing Whalley Range res who we had faced and beat in the cup final on the Wednesday evening just prior 2-1 in a tough battling game that had really taken a lot mentally and physically out of the lads so it would take a huge last pus to seal the title. When we arrived onto the pitch we soon realised that Whalley had put out their entire 3rd team, but that was a concern as knowing they had played well and beat Mellor 3rds in their cup semi and had some good players, and we didn’t want any complacency to creep into our game. We set off playing well, moving the ball around quickly and Avi scored a good goal as did Lebo in the first half, but we should of had 5. The opposition had played well, so there was a slight concern, however the lads soon killed the game off. Avi and Lebo both scored in the second half as did Mike white with a near post header. Lebo played the last 20 up front and could of scored another couple as could have Johnny Valentine. 5-0 up and coasting and starting to think about the celebrations, we took the foot off the peddle, and Whalley scored 2 really good goals. At that point we didn’t care, there was 5 mins left. The finish of the game concluded in our league and cup double success and the fizz began to spray and we deservedly celebrated. A brilliant season.
